Now, before we can talk about what is good for the new governing body, let us look at what are the problems with the existing governing body, mainly Malaysian darts Federation (MDF).
For a start, I want to ask some general questions about MDF as a non-profit organization.
Questions:
- How many members do they have? (What?)
- Where is their official homepage? (What crap, not even an out-dated homepage)
- Where is the official ground? (No place to gather)
To go further:
- What is the master plan?
- What are the programs to develop darts in Malaysia?
- Do they have any youth program?
- Do they have any election for the officials?
- Any membership drive is conducted?
- Who are the committee members?
- When is the Annual General Meeting?
- What about educational program?
Do you think there is any “yes” for the above questions? I doubt so. Obviously, MDF failed functionally to promote or develop the sport of darts in Malaysia, Asia-Pasific Region and worldwide. It does nothing other than some very basic stuff.
The topic on MDF’s failure to serve the darts community is not new; it is a rotten topic in fact. Most darts players I met expressed their disappointments with the governing body. Sadly, no one actually do anything to solve the problems and nothing was done to form governing body that can do a better job.
I am posting all this not because I want to be popular. My objective is very clear, if anyone were to start something new, better start it right. It is a very important principle in doing things of high importance. Anyway, with this post, I hope it will be able to assist the new governing body to start right and continue to grow right and sustainable. With that in hand, it will be able to journey through its visions, missions and objectives. These will ensure that it ultimately benefits the sport of darts.
I also wonder how and why MDF still exist even though it fails in carrying out its duty as a governing body. To be fair, I feel that the darts community themselves do not have sufficient interest or to certain extend, the capability to run the show in a professional manner. Somehow, not many can commit to such job for the love of darts. Well, many I met said that they love darts, and have so much passion for darts, but I reckon they are too selfish to commit to serve for darts. So, who is to be blame? I say, MDF shall have bigger piece of blame than anyone else, although it is not entire their fault.
Here are my advices to the new kids in the block who intend to form a new governing body. Do your homework, understand why the governing body is at this state today, and do not make the same mistake. Look at other countries, and one of the best examples is Australia. I am impressed with their coaching programs. Well Malaysia, we are far behind and it is nothing to be proud of.
